ANA TORROJA PROBLEMA CON HACIENDA / Tax problems

Ana, annus horribilis.

No está siendo buen año éste para Ana Torroja. Se dice que está trabajando en un nuevo disco, pero de éso no se habla. Después del grave accidente, del que afortunadamente parece que se ha recuperado, ahora ha vuelto a los periódicos por un supuesto fraude con Hacienda. Se le atribuye una deuda fiscal de unos 655.000€ que corresponden a los ejercicios 2006-07. Ella era cliente del despacho de abogados de Gabriel Feliu en Palma de Mallorca, una asesoría legal sobre la que pesan sospechas de haber fomentado un entramado millonario de fraude fiscal y estafas inmobiliarias. Se comunicó a Hacienda que en esos años la cantante estaba domicialiada fiscalmente en Gran Bretaña y aparece como administradora única de la empresa Carlitos Way.

Recordamos que en 2006, Ana realizó su última gira "La fuerza del destino" ´con gran éxito por todo el país y en Sudamérica. La artista tendrá que depositar más de un millón de euros para hacer frente a las posibles responsabilidades civiles del caso. El jueves 18 declara ante los juzgados de Palma, aunque los abogados han pedido la nulidad del caso para eludir la declaración y cuestionan la instrucción del mismo, pero el juez ha denegado tal petición.

It hasn't been a good year for Ana Torroja. She seems to be working on a new album, but nobody's talking about that. After her serious accident, from which she seems to have recovered well, now she's back in the papers for an assumed tax evasion. The assumed amount would be of 655.000€ corresponding to 2006-07. She was a customer of Gabriel Feliu's solicitor's office, over whom there are big suspicions of creating a millionaire tax evasion framework and property fraud. The Tax Office has been informed that in those years, the singer was a UK resident from a tax point of view and she appears as the only manager of the firm Carlitos Way.

We also recall that in 2006, Ana did her latest successful tour "La fuerza del destino" ("Destiny's power") throughout Spain and South America. The artist will have to deposit a million Euros to pay off possible legal responsabilites. She has to declare on Thursday, 18th at Palma's Courts, although her lawyers have asked to avoid attending and have questioned how investigations have been carried out, but the judge has denied such requests.

CHESS, EL PRIMER MUSICAL DE B&B / B&B's first musical

"Chess" es el músical con letras de Tim Rice y música de Benny Andersson y Björn Ulvaeus. La historia cuenta un triángulo amaroso entre dos jugadores de ajedrez en un campeonato mundial y una mujer que es la manager de uno de ellos y se enamora del otro. Aunque no se tuviera la intención de representar a ningún jugador profesional real, las personalidades de los personajes tiene parecidos con los jugadores Viktor Korchnoi y Bobby Fisher.

Siguiendo los patrones de "Jesucristo Superstar" y "Evita", se grabó un álbum-conceptual de "Chess" en 1984 del que se extrajeron varios singles de éxito. La primera versión teatral se estrenó en el West End de Londres en 1986 y duró 3 años. Una versión muy remozada se estrenó en Broadway, Nueva York en 1988, pero con una pobre aceptación de crítica y público.

El álbum original se grabó y editó en 1984. Se grabó en los estudios de Polar Music en Estocolmo, (los estudios de Abba), con el ingeniero de sonido del grupo Michael B. Tretow. Dos singles del álbum "One night in Bangkok" ("Una noche en Bangkok") cantado por Murray Head y el dueto "I know him so well" ("Lo conozco tan bien") con Elaine Paige y Barbara Dickson, fueron éxitos mundiales ese año (el primero nº3 en el Billboard americano, y el segundo nº1 en Inglaterra 4 semanas en febrero'85).

En esta década ha habido revisiones del musical original como conciertos y grabaciones. Del 2002, es la versión de un concierto en Estocolmo grabado para la TV y que luego se editó en CD y DVD de una versión renovada y corta en sueco: "Chess pa Svenska" ("Chess en sueco"), con Helen Sjöholm y Tommy Korberg en el elenco. Nominado a 8 Premios de Teatro Guldmasken y ganando 6, entre ellos a los dos mencionados como mejores actores principales. La última revisión ha sido la versión concierto en Mayo del 2008 en el Royal Albert Hall de Londres con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Londres y un elenco que incluye a Josh Groban, Idina Menzel y Marti Pellow (líder del grupo Wet Wet Wet), entre otros. "Chess" is the musical with lyrics by Tim Rice & music by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus. The story involves a romantic triangle between two players in a world chess championship, and a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Although the protagonists weren't intended to represent any specific individuals, the characters' personalities resemble those of chess grandmasters Viktor Korchnoi & Bobby Fisher.

Following the pattern of "Jesus Christ Superstar" & "Evita", a concept album of "Chess" was recorded in 1984 and generated several hit singles. The first theatrical version opened in London's West End in1986 and stayed on 3 years. A much-altered production premiered on Broadway, New York 1988, but with a poor reception from both critics & audience.

The original album was recorded and released in 1984. It was recorded at Abba's Polar Music Studios in Stockholm and engineered by the group's Michael B. Tretow. Sabéis que Benny y Björn son unos apasionados de los musicales, ése fue su reto tras Abba. El primero fue "Chess" ("Ajedrez") que compartieron trabajo compositor con Tim Rice. "Mamma mia!" fue un musical que salió casi sin querer... Pero en medio se embarcaron en un musical de temática sueca "Kristina fran Duvemala". Basado en la serie de obras del escrito sueco Wilhelm Moberg ("The Emigrants" ("Los Emigrantes"), "Onto a good land" ("A una tierra buena"), "The Settlers" ("Los colonos") y "The last letter home" ("La última carta a casa")). Kristina cuenta la historia épica de la emigración de una extensa familia de Suecia a América a mediados del siglo XIX. El musical se estrenó en el Teatro Musical de Malmo en Suecia en 1995 con gran éxito de crítica y público. Estuvo en cartel casi 4 años, ganando 4 premios Guldmasken de teatro (equivalentes a los premios Tony en Suecia) y visto por más público que cualquier otro musical en la historia del país. You know Benny & Björn are passionate about musicals, that was their challenge after Abba. The first one was "Chess" where they shared composing tasks with Tim Rice. "Mamma mia!" was a musical that turned out without even knowing... But in between they started off a musical with a Swedish plot, "Kristina fran Duvemala". Based on a series of novels by Swedish author Wilhelm Moberg ("The Emigrants", "Onto a good land", "The Settlers" & "The last letter home"). Kristina tells the epic story of an extended family's emigration from Sweden to America in the mid-19th century. Originally the musical was premiered at the Malomo Music Theatre in Sweden in 1995 to great acclaim of critics and audiences alike. The musical ran for almost 4 years, winning 4 Guldmasken Theatre Awards (Sweden's Tony!) and was seen by more people than any other musical in Sweden. In 1996, a concert version was performed in Swedish at Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis, Minnesota (U.S.A.), a part of the country where many of events in the Moberg novels took place.

Very soon, with the voices of Helen Sjöholm and the reknowed tenor Russell Watson and a symphony orchestra directed by Paul Gemignani will play the first English concert version (with lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus & Herbert Kretzmer) at the New York Carnegie Hall, on September, 23rd & 24th. This is Helen Sjöholm's face, the voice of many of Benny Andersson's new musical projects and one of Sweden's most beloved performers. She began singing at a young age in the choir of her hometown Sundsvall and will always be known for her major breakthrough performance of Kristina in "Kristina fran Duvemala". Benny and Björn's hit musical was seen by over one million Swedes. Helen also played Hodel in "Fiddler on the roof" and Fantine in "Les Miserables". Benny está consiguiendo lo que perseguía, que su hotel se conozca bien! Desde que salió la canción "2nd best to none" ("El segundo mejor") y se puede ver el video de toda la plantilla del hotel cantando una canción compuesta por Benny y Björn, supongo que tendrá más clientes.

Y atando cabos, comprobamos que en este mismo lugar fue donde se hizo el estreno de la película Mamma Mia! en Estocolmo hace ya más o menos un año. (Ojo a la foto del balcón, con el nombre bien claro).

En el artículo de Time se comenta que Benny, después de años trotando por hoteles de todo el mundo, tuvo la idea de convertir un cine Arte Déco de 1930 situado en el distrito Södermalm, ahora muy de moda, en un hotel de diseño. El rasto de Abba es apenas perceptible, sin embargo. (Algún disco del grupo se puede encontrar entre la discoteca de cada habitación, y alguna que otra foto del grupo entre los pósters cinematográficos que decoran el hotel, pero nada más).

El diseño moderno y elegante del hall del Hotel Rival da entrada a unas escaleras de vibrante alfombrado e iluminación dramática que recuerda los orígenes cinematográficos y las funciones que aún tiene y que suben a un auditorio de 700 asientos que ha sido magníficamente restaurado como un espacio para festivales de cine y conferencias.

Las habitaciones enmoquetadas están exquisitamente decoradas individualmente y siguiendo el gusto sueco. Buscando más el comfort que los excesos de la jetset. (Se pueden escoger entre 8 distintos tipos de almohadas e innumerables opciones de cenas informales). And investigating, we've seen that in this same place was where Mamma Mia film was premièred in Stockholm more or less a year ago. (Look carefully at the balcony photo, with the name very clear).

The Time article states that Benny, afteryears of globe-trotting hotels, had the idea of converting a 1930s Art Deco cinema, in the now fashionable district of Södermalm, into a boutique hotel. However, the connection with Abba is barely discernible. (One of the group's albums is always among the CD collection in each room and the occasional shot of the group in their 70s heyday can be found amid cinematic posters that decorate the hotel, but that's it).

The sleek, modern design of the Hotel Rival's lobby gives way upstairs to vibrant carpeting and dramatic lighting celebrating the building's cinematic origins and its continuing function, the 700-seat auditorium having been beautifully restored as a venue for film festivals and conferences.

The thicky carpeted guest rooms are meanwhile individually designed with impeccable Swedish taste. Comfort rather than any showbiz excess is the keynote. Según Los40.com, Amy McDonald actuará este verano en el festival Sonorama 2009, que se celebra en Aranda de Duero (Burgos). La cantante escocesa con un sólo disco "This is the life" ("Esta es la vida"), con el que ha conquistado medio mundo al vender 2,5 millones de copias, cantará en este festival que se celebrará entre el 13 y el 15 de agosto.

Del proyecto original de ABBA, the Museum en Estocolmo (informábamos en este blog el 26/6/2007 para esta Primavera'09), se ha pasado a ABBAWORLD, un museo itinerante por varias ciudades del mundo. Una exposición itinerante que incluye su música, sus trajes originales, historia, imágenes, instrumentos y recuerdos nunca antes expuestos de la época de mayor apogeo de grabaciones y actuaciones del grupo sueco. Problemas económicos en el acondicionamiento de los locales han retrasado la idea del museo de Estocolmo, pero esta experiencia interactiva itinerante contará con la última tecnología en sonido, imagen, multimedia y comunicación. Será la única exposición de este tipo con contenido aprobado por ABBA, ya que muchos de ellos han sido entregados exclusivamente por los miembros del grupo. From the original project of ABBA, the Museum in Stockholm (we reported about it in this blog on 26/6/07 for this Spring'09), they have changed into ABBAWORLD, a touring exhibition that will arrive to cities around the world. A touring exhibition that includes their music, original costumes, history, images, instruments and never-before-displayed memorabilia from the Swedish group's recording and performing heydey. Economic problams in refurbishing the venues have postponed the idea of the Stockholm museum, but this interactive touring experience will feature the latest technology in sound, visuals, multimedia and communication. JUNIO, CARGADO DE NOVEDADES PARA REABRIR EL BLOG / June, a month full of fresh news to re-open our blog

Benny actúa en Londres./Benny plays in London.

Junio'09 viene cargado de novedades musicales con los que tengo un pretexto para reabrir el blog. Ha habido algunas noticias desde Octubre hasta aquí... pero vamos a reabrir con las buenas.

Suecia estrena presidencia Europea en Julio, y para celebrarlo Suecia organiza en el parque Hampstead Heath de Londres un concierto de la Benny Andersson's Orchestra, primer concierto fuera de su país. Para conmemorar tal evento, la banda de Benny también edita una recopilación de sus temas más exitosos a lo largo de la historia de su grupo, y en dicho disco se incluye una nueva composición de Benny y Björn. Una canción que en la versión inglesas se titula "Story of a heart" ("Historia de un corazón") y en la versión sueca "Sommaren du fick". Ambas versiones cantadas por la cantante habitual en su banda, con una excelente voz: Helen Sjöholm. La canción se puede escuchar ya en http://www.youtube.com/. Detallaremos.

El 16-J tendremos el tercer disco en solitario de Sole Giménez "Dos Gardenias". Un disco de versiones de temas clásicos pasados al jazz latino. Todo un lujazo de voz y músicos. Detallamos en próxima entrada. Más info en http://www.soledadgiménez.com/.

June'09 comes full of fresh musical news that give me reasons to re-open this blog. There has been some news since October up to now... but lets re-open with some good ones.

Sweden starts up with the European presidency in July, and to celebrate Sweden organizes at London's Hampstead Heath a Benny Andersson's Orchestra's live concert, the first one outside his homeland. To commemorate such event, Benny's band also releases a compilations with the most famous songs in the band's history, and on this record a new song by Benny and Björn is included. The song has two versions, the English one called "Story of a heart", and the Swedish "Sommaren du fick". Both versions are sung by the band's usual and excellent voice: Helen Sjöholm. You can listen to it on http://www.youtube.com/. We'll let you know more.

On July, 16th we'll have Sole Giménez's third solo-album, "Dos Gardenias" ("Two Gardenias"). A record of classic covers turned into the latin-jazz style. Wonderful voice and musicians. We'll give more info in further entries. More at: http://www.solegimenez.com/.

ANA TORROJA: ACCIDENTE DE TRÁFICO / Car accident

El coche en que viajaba Ana's car

Como veis en la foto, así quedó el coche en el que viajaba Ana Torroja junto con su marido, la actriz Esther Arroyo y su marido y otros amigos. Desgraciadamente uno de los amigo ha muerto y otro está muy grave. Tanto Ana como Esther resultaron heridas. Ana con una fractura de clavícula, se encuentra bien y recuperándose en planta hospitalaria. Esther ha resultado con fracturas varias en sus piernas de las que ha sido operada y su pronóstico es reservado. Desde aquí nuestro deseos de pronta recuperación para ambas. Ánimo y suerte.

As you can see in the photo, that's how the car where Ana Torroja travelled together with her husband, the actress Esther Arroyo and her husband and other friends. Unfortunately one of their friends has died and another one has serious injuries. Both Ana and Esther have been injured. Ana with broken ribs, is now fine and recovering in hospital. Esther has broken legs and has been operated on, her situation is in observation. From here our best wishes for their quick recovery. Good luck.

On 29th September the second single taken from, Texas singer, Sharleen Spiteri's first solo-albumwill be released. It's "Stop, I don't love you anymore", which is one of our favourite tracks from the record.
