Audio "THE CONVERSATION", Texas:

Letra / Lyric:
Time to have a conversation
It's never what you wanna hear
It's funny how much words can hurt you
Even after all these years

I wanna make an observation
'bout how you tear your world apart
And every time I try to tell you
You blame it on your fickle heart

How they're hurting you (hurting you)
Whether they're deserting you (deserting you)
It's always so unfair to you (unfair to you)
It's time to have a conversation

Give it up (give you up)
Never gonna hold you up (hold you up)
You've always been afraid of love (afraid of love)
It's time to have a conversation

Waking up is never easy
So why don't you come over here
Tell me 'bout the dreams that haunt you
Tell me about your secret fears

I wanna change your whole perception
If only I could make you see
How it's all your own creation
That's bringing you this misery

How they're hurting you (hurting you)
Whether they're deserting you (deserting you)
It's always so unfair to you (unfair to you)
It's time to have a conversation

Give it up (give you up)
Never gonna hold you up (hold you up)
You've always been afraid of love (afraid of love)
It's time to have a conversation

The words you hear in your head
Were never said, were never said
The heart you break - mistake
For me instead, for me instead

How they're hurting you (hurting you)
Whether they're deserting you (deserting you)
It's always so unfair to you (unfair to you)
It's time to have a conversation

Give it up (give you up)
Never gonna hold you up (hold you up)
You've always been afraid of love (afraid of love)
It's time to have a conversation

How they're hurting you (hurting you)
Whether they're deserting you (deserting you)
It's always so unfair to you (unfair to you)
It's time to have a conversation

Give it up (give you up)
Never gonna hold you up (hold you up)
You've always been afraid of love (afraid of love)
It's time to have a conversation

Sharleen Spiteri: It’s great to be back... made all the better that Ally is with us

Texas star on band's return after eight years

ROCKERS Texas are back with a new album but it’s the return to action of lead guitarist Ally McErlaine that is most poignant for frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri.

After eight years in cold storage the Scots five-piece have returned with new release The Conversation.

But making the album was emotional as they were all on tenterhooks to see how Ally fared after battling back from a massive brain aneurysm which put him in a coma for nine weeks in 2009.

Seeing him back on form reassured the band — also made up of bass player Johnny McElhone, keyboardist Eddie Camp and guitarist Tony McGovern — that they were destined to make music.

Sharleen, 45, explained: “All of us were all looking at Ally on that first day, wondering how he was going to deal with it.

“We’d heard him play guitar and knew the ability was there with the old stuff. But we didn’t know about a new album, how long would he last? Would he get tired? All those questions were there.

“But he’s absolutely brilliant, it wasn’t a problem.”

She added: “I remember when I got the call when Ally had the aneurysm. I remember feeling there was something wrong with the right side of my body as Ally always stands to my right on stage. I felt something was off.

“Then when we rehearsed the new songs, it was the right balance and it was how things are supposed to be.

“After what happened, there was also this big realisation for him too — he felt ‘I am a guitarist’. That was his exact place in life.

“Sometimes you are disillusioned and you do think, ‘Is this it?’

“As you get older, you ask all those questions.
“Then things happen and you realise the important thing is how you feel — that whatever you do feels right and is important to you. I feel that about being in this band.”
Sharleen admits the new album is packed full of good songs, otherwise they wouldn’t have bothered coming back.
She said: “Shock horror — I bet everyone is saying, ‘It’s taken them f***ing long enough’.
“All these songs have been done in the last year and a half — it’s all new stuff. It just felt right and it was time to do it. We wanted to make another Texas record.
“It was a really good laugh — there was a lot of late night and drunken p***ing about.
“But I think it’s hysterical I’m doing all these interviews and talking about it, but no one has heard it. We’ve only played it to family and friends. They say they love it.
“You hear it and you go ‘Of course it sounds like Texas’.
“But it sounds new and not dated. The truth is, it was all about the songwriting.”
One famous name who’s given the Glasgow band the thumbs-up for the new album is football superstar and Sharleen’s good mate Thierry Henry.
She said: “Thierry’s heard the new album and he likes it.
“So let’s see what happens. But you know, it would come out even if he wasn’t giving us the thumbs-up — I don’t really care if he likes it or not.
“You’ve got to give yourself the thumbs-up first, then if everyone does it’s a plus.”
Ally’s brush with death caused the band to look back at their glittering career — which began with a gig at Dundee Uni in 1988.
Sharleen — who dates Welsh celeb chef Bryn Williams — said: “Friendship and your family is more important than anything else.
“I just happen to be lucky enough that those two intertwine in my life. I do something with people I’ve grown up with and are a very important part of my life. It’s something I love doing, they all do too.
“It isn’t any more or less important than it was, but what does change is your appreciation when you’re able to look back.
“I was thinking recently and I was like ‘Bloody hell, we’ve been doing this for 25 years’.
“Then people point out things. I was being interviewed the other day and this journalist told me there hasn’t been a female-fronted band since us.
“I was like don’t be stupid but then suddenly I thought about it.
“And he was bloody right — I hate when journalists are right, I really hate it.”
And Texas are brave enough to admit they’re worried whether punters will still want to buy their album.
They’ve got a stellar list of past hits including anthems I Don’t Want a Lover, Halo, Black Eyed Boy, Inner Smile and Summer Son. They know their comeback stuff is good, but it’s up to the fans if it does the business in the charts.
Sharleen said: “We did a couple of festivals last summer. You’re up on stage and you can see really clearly.
“I’m looking out thinking ‘I know the oldies here have all our records’. And then you’re looking at 20-odd-year-olds singing and thinking ‘How the hell do they know these songs?’ They weren’t the people who bought our records, it was their parents.
“Fingers crossed that we do well in the charts this time around but I don’t know who’s going to buy this record — hopefully lots of people will.
“At the end of the day we can hold our heads high and know we’ve made a good record.
“That’s all you can do.
“And if we haven’t all recharged our batteries enough after eight years off then, Christ, we don’t deserve to be doing this job.”
SHARLEEN’S daughter Misty Kyd is delighted that her mum is back with the band — because she loves getting celebrity PERKS.
Sharleen admitted: “Does she enjoy it? I wouldn’t say that. I’d say, she’s a lucky wee b******.
“She will probably end up saying, ‘Mum you’re so embarrassing’.
“My daughter saw me do a few festivals last year and saw me doing what I do.
“She’s 10 and is proud. But, to be really honest, all my kid is thinking about is who else is on at this festival?
“She just knows her mum is singing and she knows all my songs as they’ve been in her life since the day she was born.
“While we’re working, she hears the albums as they are being written.”
Sharleen admitted the rocker lifestyle was nothing new to the 10-year-old because she had been involved with the band since she was tiny.
She added: “She’s at that age where she wants to see who she can meet and is asking me if she can stand at the side of the stage or go out to the front.
“She’s into it all and gets involved in all the things around the band.”

ALISON MOYET @ GRAHAM NORTON BBC2 RADIO

Alison Moyet gave her first interview about her new album "THE MINUTES" for Graham Norton's BBC Radio2 programme. We're including a summary from her webpage and link to audio.

ALISON GIVES FIRST INTERVIEW ABOUT "THE MINUTES".

Alison Moyet appeared on the Graham Norton show on BBC Radio 2 today to speak about her forthcoming album, ‘the minutes’, which is released in the UK on May 6. The singer revealed how the album got its title.
“Basically, we all feel slightly cheated when our life does not end up being this stream of joy and one thing that you do understand when you come middle aged is that it was never about that, it was always a lie, that it was always about fantastic minutes that are suspended in years, and that’s what this is about” Alison told listeners about the new album. “All the years of fighting to make a creative record for myself rather than do a covers album. These are my minutes.”
In the interview, Alison revealed that the sound of the single of ‘When I Was Your Girl’ is quite unusual for the album and was the one that radio was more likely to play.
Another hint about ‘the minutes’ is that some tracks are very much about the single whereas others are about the vibe of the track. Graham noted that Alison’s voice is more produced on some of the tracks than he had heard it before.
Alison warned fans to expect the electronica of a very programmed, produced album as opposed to electro.
The singer revealed that she and Guy had written the album over three years, having rejected lots of album deals that were only about Etta James covers. And praised her new record label Cooking Vinyl for taking the record on without trying change it.
Alison confirmed that touring this album would involve computers and screens and would allow her to revisit Yazoo tracks and early solo material that she has been unable to in recent solo tours with a generic band.
Intriguingly Alison admitted that she thinks this will be her favourite album of her own in that it works lyrically and sonically for her.

AGNETHA @ "THE GUARDIAN"

El periódico inglés "The Guardian" también dedicó un artículo a Agnetha, la semana pasada. Aquí en inglés.

British newspaper "The Guardian" also devoted an article to Agnetha kast week. Here it is.

Abba's Agnetha Fältskog returns – and unravels the mystery of her silence

Like David Bowie and Kate Bush, Fältskog has attained almost mystical status through her extended absence, but the Swedish singer is now exploding the myths that have formed around her
Agnetha Fältskog has one of the all-time great pop voices: crystal clear, delicate and equally at home channelling the euphoric disco and sublime heartbreak that became Abba's stock-in trade throughout their extraordinary heyday. Hardly suprising, then, that news of her first new album release in nine years – and her first of original material since 1987 – has caused something of a media frenzy.
Like her fellow recently reactivated pop icon David Bowie, the fascination that Fältskog still commands is as much to do with narrative as nostalgia. The shy Swedish beauty with the knockout voice, married to one of her bandmates and forced to sing a series of gut-wrenchingly personal songs about their subsequent divorce in front of an audience of millions ... before being driven to paranoia and seclusion when the group finally imploded. As the ultimate expression of pop as soap opera, only Fleetwood Mac comes close.
The problem with this image of Fältskog as one of the music industry's archetypally tragic victims is that it isn't really accurate. True, she has kept a low profile since the Abba days, but in a recent interview she expressed frustration at the perception that she is some kind of isolated Greta Garbo figure.
"I have been described as very mysterious, but I'm not," she said, "I think I'm just very grounded. My life contains so many other things; I have my children, my grandchildren, my two dogs, and a big place in the country. I have my own life."
Even her move away from regular recording happened much more gradually than many assume. She released three English-language solo albums in the 80s to moderate success, but never quite found the material to match the incredible songs written for her by Benny and Björn. In the UK, her sole top 40 hit of that decade was a ghastly reggae-tinged number called The Heat Is On. She fared better on the mainland with the bouncy synth-pop hit I Won't Let You Go and seductive balladWrap Your Arms Around Me – widely considered by hardcore fans to be one of her most underrated recordings.
However, like many pop stars approaching middle age, she found her record sales rapidly diminishing, and her own interest in the promotional carousel waning. Footage of her being forced to dance alongside a 6ft kangaroo on a German children's TV show in 1985 suggests her decision to retreat from the limelight was eminently sensible rather than perverse.
Another reason for her near-silence over the last 25 years is her terror of flying (owing to a traumatic experience while touring the US with Abba in 1979, which saw her plane make an emergency landing after flying into the middle of a tornado). She travelled almost exclusively overground during the 80s, and did no international promotion for her 2004 comeback album, My Colouring Book – a collection of standards that still managed to yield her biggest solo hit to date in the UK, a tender reworking of Cilla Black's If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind.
Her long absence from public view may be down to more mundane reasons than commonly reported, but as with Bowie and Kate Bush, it has still proven to be a far more effective promotional tool than a lifetime spent touring the international chatshow circuit. The compelling domestic drama that spawned Abba's biggest hits, combined with their steadfast refusal to get back together, has resulted in the singer attaining an almost mystical quality, her few public appearances the subject of breathless rumour and anticipation.
Suggestions that she was finally ready to launch a comeback first circulated late last year, with reports that she was in the studio with producer Jörgen Elofsson – who has written hits for Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis. The first fruits of this collaboration were released this week, as the lead single When You Really Loved Someone was premiered. It's a classic pop ballad that could easily pass for a hit by an artist such as Lewis, but is given extra gravitas by Fältskog's more mature yet still remarkably pure voice. It's not likely to join The Winner Takes It All and SOS in the annals of the all-time greats, but it's a creditable, dignified return.
By all accounts, her forthcoming album, A, due for release on 13 May, will continue to stick close to the clean-cut pop sound that made her name. The prospect of a duet with Gary Barlow may send a chill down the spine, but there's also the promise of the "rousing disco number" Dance Your Pain Away, and a rare self-penned closer, the quirkily titled I Keep Them on the Floor Beside My Bed. One presumes the latter will be some sort of metaphor for distant memories, rather than discarded knickers. But from the woman whose former band mined pop gold from the subject of – among other things – the fall of Napoleon, the revitalising power of stage lighting in Glasgow and political agitation in the Soviet Union, you can never really take anything for granted.
