On November 15, 2025, the world celebrates the 80th birthday of Anni-Frid Lyngstad — “Frida” — one of the four iconic members of ABBA and one of the most distinctive voices in pop music.
Elegant, powerful, and deeply expressive, Frida’s voice helped define ABBA’s timeless sound — from the grandeur of “Fernando” “Money, Money, Money” and “Super Trouper” to the emotional depth of “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “When All Is Said and Done” and “I Let the Music Speak.” Yet her artistry extends far beyond ABBA, through acclaimed solo work and a lifelong commitment to music, culture, and compassion.
Born in Norway in 1945 and raised in Sweden, Frida began performing as a teenager in local bands before winning New Faces in 1967 — a breakthrough that led to television appearances and her first solo recordings. Her debut album showcased an artist of rare emotional range and vocal precision.
With ABBA, Frida conquered the world — touring Scandinavia, Europe, North America, Australia, and Japan — bringing both glamour and grounded humanity to the stage. Her performance energy, magnetic presence, and connection with audiences became legendary. “The energy exchange between us on stage and the audience was absolutely amazing,” she once recalled.
After ABBA, her solo career flourished. “Something’s Going On” (1982) produced by Phil Collins, achieved international success with the hit “I Know There’s Something Going On”.
