Even though Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson of ABBA saw and liked the initial version of our video that pays tribute to 40 years of ABBA and 30 years since ABBA's last recording together, we ultimately could not get full permission from the group as a whole in order to use the original track here. Recorded on August 20, 1982, "The Day Before You Came" was first released on October 18, 1982 -- 30 years ago this week!
As vocally versatile puppeteers, we easily could have provided voices of our own for the characters once we realized we were not going to be able to use the song to demonstrate our puppet lip syncing abilities as planned. But because we also wanted to stay true to the group, we felt not only did this approach to adapt it into a silent film seem appropriate and even more creative and fun, but it added to and told our story even better based on how the entire process played out from beginning to end.
Filmed on location in and around Hamburg, Germany. No puppeteering monitors were used during the filming. Created by Travis Frost & Julian Kleibeler.
