"Voyage Voyage", a song sung exclusively in French, managed the rare feat of featuring in several countries top hits which are usually closed to francophone songs and artists. In Germany, the song topped the chart and has the longest chart trajectory of 1987 in the Top 20.Curiously, the song failed to reach #1 in France, but stayed at #2 for four weeks, and remained on the chart for 21 weeks, from 13 December 1986 to 9 May 1987. Also managed to be the biggest selling single in Spain in 1987 with more than 200,000 copies sold. The song reached the Top 10 in both the United Kingdom and Ireland upon re-release in 1988. Seguimos recordando los '80. Hoy oí esta canción en la radio. "LOST IN LOVE" ("Perdido en amor") es el quinto álbum del grupo australiano de rock suave Air Supply, editado en marzo de 1980. Sus anteriores cuatro álbumes nunca tuvieron gran repercusión fuera de Australia, pero éste fue un éxito masivo en la listas de todo el mundo. Alcanzó el nº22 en los EEUU con tres singles en el top 5. Vendió más de 3 millones de copias, alcanzando estatus multiplatino. El single del mismo título "LOST IN LOVE", llegó al nº3 en las listas americanas en mayo de 1980 y ganó el premio a la "canción del año" y a la "canción más radiada".

We continue remembering the 80s. Today I heard this song on the radio. "LOST IN LOVE" is the fifth studio album by Australian soft rock band Air Supply, released in March 1980. Their previous four albums never received much attention outside Australia, but Lost in Love was a massive success on international charts. It peaked at #22 in the US with three Top 5 singles. It sold over 3 million copies, reaching multi-platinum status. Hit singles include the title track "Lost in Love", which peaked at #3 on US charts in May 1980 and earned an award for "song of the year" and "most played song".

An oldie to kick off the month. It's "MIRRORS", Sally Oldfield's only big international hit. Sister of famous artist and songwriter Mike Oldfield. Her debut album was released in 1978, this song was taken from it and it was a great hit that year and throughout 79. She has continued releasing albums but none of them have reached such international success.

Volvemos a recordar hoy: Tina Charles (nacida Tina Hoskins, 10 marzo de 1954 en Whitechapel, Londres) es una cantantes inglesa, que consiguió gran éxito como artista disco a mediados de los 70. Muy conocida por su nº1 de 1976 "I LOVE TO LOVE (BUT MY BABY LOVES TO DANCE)" ("Me encanta amar (pero a mi chico le encanta bailar)"), que se editó el 22 de marzo de 1976.

We're back remembering today: Tina Charles (born Tina Hoskins, 10 March 1954, Whitechapel, London) is an English singer, who achieved success as a disco artist in the mid to late 1970s. She is best known for her 1976 number 1 hit "I LOVE TO LOVE (BUT MY BABY LOVES TO DANCE)", which was released on 22nd March 1976.

"MANUREVA", ALAIN CHAMFORT

Alain Chamfort es un cantante francés de origen bretón, nacido el 2 de marzo de 1949 en París. Conoció al famoso compositor y productor Jacques Dutronic que propuso ayudarle. Tras ser descubierto por Dutronic, fueron Claude François y posteriormente Serge Gainsbourg quienes trabajaron con él. Gainsbourg le compuso la emotiva "MANUREVA" (un tributo el marino Alain Colas que había muerto en alta mar el año antes en el yate del mismo nombre. Manureva viene del tahitiano significando "pájaro viajero"). "MANUREVA" se convirtió en un gran éxito en Francia y en toda Europa en 1979, subiendo a lo más alto de las listas y vendiendo más de 1 millón de copias.

Alain Chamfort is a French singer of Breton origin, born on 2 March 1949 in Paris. He met famed writer and producer Jacques Dutronc who proposed to help him. After being discovered by Dutronc, it was with Claude François and ultimately Serge Gainsbourg who worked for him. Gainsbourg wrote the moving "MANUREVA" (a tribute to French solo yachtsman Alain Colas who had perished at sea the previous year in his yatch of the same name. Manureva comes from Tahitian language meaning "travelling bird"). "MANUREVA" went on to be a major hit on the French music scene and throughout Europe in 1979, rocketing to the top of the charts and selling over 1 million copies.

Nik Kershaw (nacido Nicholas David Kershaw; 1 marzo 1958) es un cantante-compositor inglés. Este guitarrista jazz-funk de antaño se convirtió en un ídolo de adolescentes a mediados de los 80. Aunque nacido en Bristol, Kershaw creció en Ipswich, Suffolk, y tras dejar la escuela en 1976 trabajó como dependiente. A comienzos de 1984, Kershaw editó su hit "Wouldn't it be good" ("No sería estupendo"), que alcanzó el nº4 en la lista de singles británico y se convirtió en un gran éxito en Europa, particularmente en Alemania, Italia, Suiza, Escandinavia y Australia. El video clip, en el que Kershaw aparece con un traje chroma-alienígena, fue muy difundido en MTV. Nik Kershaw (born Nicholas David Kershaw; 1 March 1958) is an English singer-songwriter. The one time jazz-funk guitarist was a mid-1980s teen idol. Although born in Bristol, Kershaw grew up in Ipswich, Suffolk, and after leaving school in 1976 worked as a shop assistant. Hoy nos dedicamos al recuerdo. Y vamos con un grupo "one hit wonder" (de un sólo éxito, al menos aquí en España). Se trata de Bell, Book & Candle, un grupo alemán formado por Jana Gross (voz), Andy Birr (voz, guitarras y batería) y Hendrik Röder (voz y bajo). Su primer álbum fue "READ MY SIGN" ("Lee mi señal") en 1988. De éste álbum se extrajo este single de éxito que hoy recordamos llamado "RESCUE ME" ("Rescátame"). ¿Lo recordáis?

We devote the day to remember. And we're listening to a one-hit-wonder-group, at least here in Spain. It's Bell, Book & Candle is a German musical group consisting of Jana Gross (vocals), Andy Birr (vocals, guitars, drums) and Hendrik Röder (vocals, bass guitar). It was one of the best-selling single of 1989 in the UK. Jamelia made a cover version of the song for the Bridget Jones soundtrack.

Es un homenaje a los días dorados de la radio, describiendo la carrera de un cantante que se trunca por el comienzo de la televisión. La canción se encaramó a las listas de éxitos de varios países y ha sido versionado por muchos artistas. Fue el primer video que se emitió en MTV en Norteamérica a medianoche del 1 de agosto de 1981.

Black, cuyo nombre real es Colin Vearncombe, tuvo en 1987 un éxito europeo con esta canción "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" ("Es una vida maravillosa"), canción que ya había sido editada unos años antes en otra versión. El video se grabó en el paseo marítimo y faro de la localidad inglesa de New Brighton, Wallasey. Ha tenido versiones de Ace of Base, por ejemplo (pero no hemos encontrado audio ni video).

Black, whose real name is Colin Vearncombe, had a European-wide hit in 1987 with this song "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE", song which had already been released a few years before in a different version. The video was recorded at the New Brighton promenade and lighthouse at Wallasey. It's been covered by other artists such as Ace of Base (but we haven't found either audio or video of it).

El grupo irlandés liderado por Bob Geldof, tuvo un éxito mundial allá por 1979 con "I DON'T LIKE MONDAYS" ("No me gustan los lunes"), basada en un hecho real: Brenda Ann Spencer disparó matando a dos adultos y un policía el 29 de enero de 1979 en San Diego porque los lunes no le gustaban. A pesar de los lunes, y sin llegar a tanto..., que éste sea bueno, además es una semana corta. Incluimos el video con la historia de este éxito y la historia real detrás de él (en inglés).

It's Monday today. Monday's aren't good. The Irish band with Bob Geldof in front, had a worldwide hit in 1979 with "I DON'T LIKE MONDAYS", based on a real event: Brenda Ann Spencer's shooting of two adults and a policeman on January 29th 1979 in San Diego because she didn't like Mondays. Despite Mondays, and without going so mad..., hoping this isn't that bad, anyway we've got a short week in front. We include the video with the story of this hit and the story behind it.

Doug Fieger, cantante de The Knack, falleció ayer (14 de febrero) en Los Ángeles, a los 57 años, a causa de un cáncer de pulmón. En 2005 le fue diagnosticado y posteriormente se le extirparon varios tumores en el cerebro.
En 1979, Doug Fieger, al frente de The Knack, publicó su primer álbum, “GET THE KNACK"”, en el que se incluía la canción ‘MY SHARONA"’, que llegó a ser un éxito mundial. El grupo se disolvió en 1982 pero volvió a reunirse en 1986 para hacer una gira y grabar tres discos más en los siguientes años, el último, “PROOF” ("Prueba"), apareció en 1998. Fieger publicó un disco en solitario en 2000, “FIRST THINGS FIRST” ("Lo primero es lo primero").

Doug Fieger, vocalist of The Knack, died yesterday (February, 14th) in Los Angeles at the age of 57 due to lung cancer. He was diagnosed in 2005 and had had surgery later to take out several brain tumours.

In 1979, Doug Fieger, leading The Knack, released their first album "GET THE KNACK", including their worldwide hit "MY SHARONA". The group broke up in 1982 and got together again in 1986 to tour and record three albums more in the following years, the last one "PROOF" was released in 1998. Fieger released a solo album in 2000, "FIRST THING FIRST".

Rastreando nos hemos encontrado por casualidad con otra canción que Sharleen incluirá en su nuevo disco en solitario "THE MOVIE SONGBOOK" ("El cancionero del cine"). Se trata de "IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU" ("Si no puedo tenerte"), que Sharleen cantó en vivo en octubre 2008 para el Saturday Night Fever Electric Proms y que pertenece a la banda sonora de "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" ("Fiebre del Sábado noche") en su versión original cantada por Yvonne Elliman y compuesta por los Bee Gees. Aquí están ambas.

Searching we've found by chance another song that Sharleen will include in her new solo-album "THE MOVIE SONGBOOK". It's "IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU", which Sharleen sang live in October 2008 for the Saturday Night Fever Electric Proms and which belongs to "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" original soundtrack in its original version performed by Yvonne Elliman and written by the Bee Gees. Con motivo de la próxima edición del nuevo y segundo álbum en solitario de Sharleen Spiteri recopilando éxitos de películas, nos da pie a recordar un tema de la película "TOP GUN" interpretada originalmente por el grupo de Los Ángeles, Berlín, que en 1986 tuvo un éxito mundial con la canción "TAKE MY BREATH AWAY" ("Quítame la respiración") en la voz de su solista Terri Nunn. Hoy las dos versiones de Berlin y de Sharleen.

The upcoming release of Sharleen Spiteri's new second solo-album collecting together hits from movie soundtracks, gives us the opportunity to remember a song from the film "TOP GUN", originally performed by the Los Angeles-based band Berlin, which in 1986 had a worldwide hit with "TAKE MY BREATH AWAY" in the voice of their vocalist Terri Nunn. Acabamos de enterarnos que el actor Andrew Lincoln, que descubrimos en "Love Actually" nació en Londres el 14 de septiembre de 1973, pero creció en Hull hasta que a los 10 años se mudó a Bath. Andrew es un actor conocido en Gran Bretaña por su participación en series como "Teachers" y "Afterlife". Incluimos aquí videos suyos.

We've just learnt that actor Andrew Lincoln, who we discovered in "Love Actually" was born in London on September 14th 1973, but grew up in Hull until he moved to Bath at the age of 10. Andrew is a well-known actor in the UK because he starred in series such as "Teacher" & "Afterlife". We include videos of him.

Para combatir el frío polar del día de hoy, un video de un éxito de los principios de los 90 por el grupo The Beloved "SWEET HARMONY" ("Dulce harmonía") y un video que ganó notoriedad porque Jon Marsh, el cantante, se acompañaba de un grupo numeroso de mujeres todos completamente desnudos para acompañar al mensaje de la canción en favor de la unidad y la harmonía entre todos los humanos.

To fight against this polar cold wave today, a video of a hit from the early 90s by the group The Beloved "SWEET HARMONY" and its controversial video which gained notoriety because its singer Jon Marsh was accompanied by a big group of women completely naked to support the song's message in favour of unity & harmony among humans.
