ABBA'S "LIKE AN ANGEL PASSING THROUGH MY ROOM" VERSIONES / Versions

Abba

Madonna

Madonna's first use of Abba's music wasn't for her famous hit "Hung up", as we already listened to on our Versions-1. There was another previous version in the time of her album "Frozen", Madonna recorded a version of an Abba song that was never included on the record. The same song was one that the Swedish soprano-singer Anne Sofie von Otter did, among others of the group, for a record produced by Benny Andersson. The song in both cases is "Like an angel passing through my room", that Frida sang solo closing the last studio album from the group. From its title the angel on the record-sleeve, we suppose (See Abba related-places-2). There are more covers by Sissel & Celtic Women

NORUEGOS / Norwegians: SISSEL & ESPEN LIND, "WHERE THE LOST ONES GO"

"VENN": ...OTRA DE NORUEGOS / ...another one by Norwegians

Searching for Norwegians, we've found a curiosity. A song written by Lene Marlin & Espen Lind, Norwegian artists who have published records in Spain (and we suppose in Europe, too), together with others who have appeared round here on this blog: Elizabeth Andreassen, hanne Krogh and our latest discovery Sissel, together with others only known in Norway. the song is "VENN" and it's to raise money in favour of the people injured in the Southeast Asia sunami. Today, here, a Norwegian curiosity.

[BSO] "FRENCH KISS", ("DREAM A LITTLE DREAM"), THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH, ANA BELÉN, THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS & SISSEL

"French Kiss"

Beautiful South

Ana Belén

The Mammas & the Papas

A classic song may admit several cover versions that make such incredible combination of artists as this post has today. Yesterday afternoon, TV broadcasted "FRENCH KISS", the 1995 romantic-comedy starring Meg Ryan & Kevin Kline. Featuring on its original sountrack is the song "DREAM A LITTLE DREAM (OF ME)", performed in French by the British group The Beautiful South, a group made up by former members from my hometown mates The Housemartins. They also did an English version, both are included here. In Spanish, this song was covered by Ana Belén as "SUEÑO EN GRIS" ("I dream in grey"). Another successful version belongs to 1968 by the Californian band The Mammas & the Papas. Also our new Norwegian discovery Sissel has sung it. All of them are included here. But there are many other versions of this song written by Fabian Andre & Wilbur Schwandt in 1931, such as, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Michael Bublé...

SISSEL KYRKJEBO: VIDEOCLIPS

Another post of our latest discovery: Sissel (Kyrkjebo). The photo is the picture-sleeve of an album that collected the best of her repertoire up to 2002, and which was her first record in the USA, a colection of pop songs with a celtic-scandinavian musical touch. From this album we've got two videos which we include here.

[BSO] SISSEL, UN GRAN DESCUBRIMIENTO DE OTRA FANTÁSTICA VOZ ESCANDINAVA / A great discovery of another fantastic Scandinavian voice

Once again and by chance, we've discovered a great female voice coming from Scandinavia: Norwegian soprano Sissel (Bergen, 24/06/69). A voice we found covering Abba, but checking on her videos on the web, we find authentic jewels and an exquisite voice. Apart from great collaborations, such as Carreras. The strange thing about her is that her voice isn't more well-known because as a newspaper descibes her: "Norway's treasure". For all this, she's our candidate today and we enclose some of her videos.

"LIKE AN ANGEL PASSING THROUGH MY ROOM", TODAVÍA UNA NUEVA VERSIÓN / Yet another version

The second version in this section was posted on 1/7/09, already collected versions of this Abba song "LIKE AN ANGEL PASSING THROUGH MY ROOM", in Frida's solo, and the cover versions by Madonna & Anna Sophie von Otter. Well, we've found yet another version, in the voice of Norwegian soprano, Sissel Kyrkjebo, known artistically as Sissel, who sang this Abba song at the centennial of Norwegian independence from Sweden in 2005. So we enclose it here, and we think it's the best (after the original one).
