Music is an extraordinary thing. It can bring a smile to your face and create so many wonderful images in your heart and mind. It can also help you through grim times. Some songs even feel like they were written just for you, especially for you. Isn’t that strange? Or maybe it just means we’re all the same? I finished writing ”Around The Corner” the day after Marie died. Three days later my mother-in-law died. Death was on the plate. I wrote it for me. But I guess I also wrote it for all of you out there. We are many who lost someone dear and don’t really know where to go. I spent an intense afternoon in the T&A Studio with MP Persson on December 16th. Two days later Helena Josefsson jumped on a northbound train and joined us for some singing. I didn’t really listen that much over xmas but the first week of January 2020 I sent what we’d done to Clarence Öfwerman who wrapped it up with some beautiful sounds and poured even more love over it. Bringing today another collaboration by Per Gessle. It's a video of a version he made of the Hollies' song "HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S MY BROTHER", for the soundtrack of Jonas Akerlund's movie "Small apartments". There's a lot happening to Per Gessle these days, after releasing his archives, announcing Roxette's new worldtour and working on new Roxette material.. it's non-stop for him. But besides we've just known about a new collaboration with Finnish DJ-producer Heikki L, which has turned up with this "YOU DON'T WANT LOVE". El periódico sueco Expressen ha revelado que Roxette ya está trabajando en su próximo disco. ¿El nombre que barajan? "T2" (Toursim 2). "Ya hemos empezado a grabar," dice Per Gessle. El álbum se graba durante la gira, como su predecesor Toursim, en habitaciones de hotel, estudios de grabación de lugares por donde pasan y durante las pruebas de sonido". "Todo será material nuevo", dice Per. También ha hurgado entre sus archivos y encontrado viejas grabaciones de Marie. "Tenemos canciones con una joven Marie, antes de enfermar. Swedish newspaper Expressen has revealed that Roxette is already working on the next album. The working name? "T2" (Toursim 2). "We've already started recording songs," says Per Gessle. The album is recorded on tour, like its predecessor Tourism, in hotelrooms, local studios and during soundchecks". "All new material," claims Per. He has also gone through his archives and found old recordings with Marie. "We have songs with a young Marie, before she got ill. We will use her vocals and record new backgrounds." So far Roxette has performed in front of more than half a million people on this tour. When the tour is over 1.3 million will be reached. "This success is a bonus for us. We had never expected this!" says Per and continues "After some concerts people have been surprised that we play all live, no pre-recorded cheats." Right now it seems the tour will go on well into 2012.

Today Roxette start off their South African leg of their world tour with 6 concerts from today until May 17th. Three will be in Cape Town (at the Grand Arena, with a capacity for 7,000 people), and four in Sun City (at the Superbowl, which holds up to 10,000). All concerts are sold out or almost. EMI will release a CD+DVD compilation to commemorate it. Per has given an interview to a Swedish morning programme, here is the second part with a rough translation into English.

SVT: Per Gessle is today's guest on "Good Morning Sweden," recently home from a South America trip, out on a big tour... and on Sunday Roxette is playing the Grand Arena in Cape Town, South Africa.
Per: "Yes, sir"
SVT: How is life as a 50-year-old rockstar?
Per: (Laughs) It pretty good actually. It's very calm. The tour is planned so we play one day and the next day we travel. We have one day off in between, almost all the time it's like that.
SVT: You don't throw anything out from the hotel rooms windows?
Per: (Laughs again) No, but we've never really done that, accually.
SVT: What would have happened if you never would have had success with Roxette? I read somewhere that you had to sell some guitars?
Per: I had was a little poor, '84-'85 were tough years for me and my girlfriend. Nobody was really interested in me, I was a has-been at 24 years of age. The first Roxette album Pearls of Passion, was accually my refused third Swedish solo album that I quickly translated.
SVT: A solo record that nobody wanted?
Per: "So Far Away" and other songs were written in Swedish. But that's the way it is, sometimes it goes forwards, and sometimes it goes backwards. It was tough, yes.
SVT: Then as soon as 1989, three years after what you just talked about, you are mentioned as "one of the richest 30 year-olds in Sweden" in media. It went fast.
Per: That's typical media...
SVT: For everyone who wonders, can you tell us what it is like to become rich?
Per: It's hard to say, for me it has been that I can work with what I want to work with. I think, the feeling you get from your job is everything. I don't have to think about saving money for the end of the month. I can focus my energy on making music.
SVT: That sounds fantastic. You and Marie are on the road again. Not many thought this would happen again after 2002. How did this affect you?
Per: Hard to say. It was very difficult, mostly to her family and herself of course, but us close to her were affected to. My father had cancer in the '70s, that were also very hard. But now, it was hard to understand. It looked bad for Marie, she had just one chance out of 20 to survive. There were some tough months back then. If you had asked me 5-6 years ago if there would be more Roxette, I would have said "no, I don't belive that". We have taken it very slow, it was the concert in Amsterdam that was some kind of start for all this.
SVT: But know when you play for 10,000 people on the other side of the world. Do you think "shit, what about five years ago?"
Per: Yes, that happens. But that happend in the old days to. I remember a concert when we played for about 50-60,000 people at a football stadium in Uruguay or something like that and we looked at each other and both thought "Is this really true? This little hobby band from Halmstad?!". In one way it has never been as fun as this to play, now when we don't feel any pressure. We don't feel that we are fighting to chart or make the best record in the world. We are travelling the world and play our songs for people that want to hear them and having fun with our band and our music. It's nice to not having these competitive feelings, career feelings, it's gone, at least for me.
SVT: Anyhow, you are doing what many other bands are longing for.
Per: Maybe that's the thing. It feels like a gift from above. We are just trying to enjoy it.
SVT: How long are you going on like this?
Per: I don't know. It looks now like the tour is continuing a good part into next year. We'll see, how old I am then.
SVT: When will you play in Sweden?
Per: Gothenburg 24th of july, Globen 3rd of november and Malmö arena the 4th of november. That was not bad, right?
SVT: That was fantastic that you remembered that much at your age.
Per: Thank you so much for that.
SVT: You have experienced the life of a rockstar already as a 20 year old. Gyllene Tider popped up out of nowhere in 1979, I think your first hit came? 1980?Per: 1979-80, yes. Gyllene had played all of six concerts, before friends, at that time...

Roxette ha anunciado dos fechas de conciertos en España. El grupo tocará en el Palacio de Vistalegre en Madrid y en el de Sant Jordi en Barcelona, el 18 y 19 de noviembre respectivamente. Roxette has announced two concert dates in Spain. The band will play the at Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Madrid and the Sant Jordi in Barcelona on November 18 & 19 respectively. Tickets go on pre-sale March 16 09.00. Pre-sale price is €45. There'll be new dates announced for the final leg of the tour on Monday 14th. We include videos where Per comments on each of the songs on the new album.

Hay novedades sobre Roxette. Siguen inmersos en una gira que les está llevando con éxito por diferentes localidades de Europa, la Princesa Victoria de Suecia cuenta con ellos para su gala nupcial y también están trabajando en el nuevo disco. La grabación se realiza en el estudio Aerosol Grey Machine en Skane, al sur de Suecia. Per ha comentado que la grabación va muy bien y que tienen entre manos un disco excellente. Está sonando muy bien. Grabarán 16 temas. Pero Per no cree que el disco salga este año, ya que piensan descansar durante el verano, aparte de algún que otro concierto, piensan tenerlo acabado para octubre, tal y como lo ven ahora, pero el álbum no se editará hasta febrero del 2011. Puede que haya un single para navidad. Y también comentó que la voz de Marie está fenomenal.
There are new about Roxette. They continue with their tour which is taking them successfully around different locations throughout Europe, Sweden's Princess Victoria counts on them to take part in her wedding gala and they are also working on their new record. The recordings are taking place at the Aerosol Grey Machine studios in Skane, Southern Sweden. Per has commented that the recording is going very well and that they've got a killer album on their hands. Most things feel tremendous. They'll record 16 tracks. On the question if the album will be out before Christmas he responds that they're taking a break over the summer, and they'll be done in October the way it seems now. The album will likely be released in February 2011. And hopefully they'll pop out a single for X-mas. He also said that Marie's vocals are exceptional.

Como ya informamos, Roxette se han reunido para unos conciertos dentro de la gira Night of the Proms y han hablado con Lasse Bengtsson de la TV4 sueca el pasado 28 de noviembre. Aquí lo más importante que han dicho:
- ¿Por qué un regreso de Roxette, Marie?
Marie: ¿Por qué no?
- ¿Cómo te encuentras?
Marie: Fenomenal.
- ¿Per, otra gira?
Per: Sí, es fascinante estar de gira otra vez. No hay nada negativo sobre esto.
- ¿Creíais que ibais a estar juntos así otra vez?
Marie: Sip. Per: Bueno... nunca quise hacerme esa pregunta. Siempre dependía de Marie. Y estoy encantado de que vaya tan bien.
- ¿Vas en serio Marie?
Marie: Roxette? Sí. Era muy evidente para mi. Mi enfermedad vino como una bomba, pero eso fue hace muuuuucho tiempo. Los fans de Roxette han sido fenomenales en todo este tiempo.
Per: Ella ha echado todo esto de menos, te lo puedo asegurar. Siempre has sido una artista del escenario, aunque hayas sido también muy buena en el estudio últimamente, ja, ja!
- ¿Cuál es la diferencia?
Per: Ahora los fans lloran sobre todo, hay cada escena ahí afuera. Hemos grabado 14-15 temas, escogido las claves, dirección y así. Y matamos el tiempo.
Marie: Las canciones son totalmente estupendas. Cuando escuché las demos que hizo Per para este álbum me cautivaron por completo.
Per: ¡Es una fan, ya lo sabes! Las grabaciones suenan muy bien. Seguimos con el sonido Roxette pero actualizándolos, eso esperamos, para que sean relevantes para nosotros y para otros... Son mis canciones y la voz de Marie, como siempre.
-¿Algunas diferencias entre las canciones clásicas de Roxette y estas nuevas?
Marie: Mi voz es más baja ahora.
Per: Ja, ja, no pero tenemos nuestro estilo, es cómo decoras tu árbol de navidad, ¿no sabes? ¡Un quinto nº1 en los Estados Unidos no vendría mal!
- Y entonces, ¿A dónde os lleva esto? ¿Es esto un test para el futuro?
Per: Sí, por supuesto. Hay una gran posibilidad de un nuevo album, luego veremos. Es un gran paso para un verdadero concierto de Roxette. Depende de Marie. Es un gran paso.
Marie: Realmente espero que haya una verdadera gira "suprema" en algún momento dado. Veremos. Tenemos tantas canciones buenas para poder escoger. Tenemos tanto que dar todavía.
- ¿Cómo fue el último concierto?
Marie: ¡Fantástico! El mejor hasta ahora. Todo salió bien.

As we've already reported, Roxette have come together to perform some concerts in the Night of the Proms tour and they've spoken to Lasse Bengtsson from Swedish TV4 last November 28th. Here the main facts they talked about:
- Why a Roxette come back Marie? Marie: - Why not?
- How do you feel? Marie: - Damned great. - Per, another tour? Per: - Yes, it's amazing to be on tour again. There's absolutely nothing negative about this. - Did you believe you'd be together like this again? Marie: - Yep. Per: - Well… I never wanted to ask myself that question. It was always up to Marie. And I'm amazed it goes so well. - Are you serious Marie? Marie: - Roxette? Yes. It was self evident to me. My sickness came as a bomb, but that was a loooong time ago. Roxette's fans have been amazing all through this. Per: - She's missed this, I can tell. You've always been a stage artist, even though you've been great in the studio too lately, ha ha! - What's the difference? Per: - Now the fans are crying mostly, a lot of scenes out there.We've recorded 14-15 songs, chosen keys, direction and stuff. Plus we're killing time. Marie: The songs are "totally amazing". When I've heard Per's demos for this album I was totally blown away. Per: She's such a fan you know! The recordings sound great. We're sticking to our Roxette sound, but hopefully updating it so it feels relevant to us and preferably others… It's my songs and Marie's voice, as always. - Any differences between the classic Roxette songs and these new ones? Marie: - My voice is lower now. Per: - Ha ha, no but we have our style, it's sort of how you dress your Christmas tree you know? Per: - A fifth US #1 wouldn't hurt!
- So, what's this leading up to? Is this a test for the future? Per: - Yes definitely. There's a huge possibility for a new album, then we'll see. It's a huge step for a real Roxette concert. It's up to Marie. A huge step. Marie: - I really hope there will be a "creme de la creme" tour sometime. We'll see. We have so many wonderful songs to choose from. We have so much more to give. - How was the gig? Marie: - Fantastic! Best one so far. Everything clicked. Per: It was good, Marie was excellent. - How does this predict the future? Per: Ha ha, we have 25 concerts left, let's do those first. But let's say we have a very good time at work!
