it feels fitting to revisit one of her most poetic and introspective creations: Djupa andetag (Deep Breaths), released on 20/9/1996, which turns 30 today.

A return home

After more than a decade away from the studio, Frida re-emerged not with an international pop album, but with something far more intimate. Djupa andetag was sung entirely in Swedish, produced by Anders Glenmark, and released through Anderson Records, the label founded by ABBA’s legendary manager Stikkan Anderson’s daughter, Marie Ledin.

When the album arrived, it went straight to number one in Sweden — a testament to the love and anticipation that still surrounded Frida. But unlike the glittering days of pop fame, this was a quieter kind of success — rooted in maturity, nature, reflection, and the courage to breathe again.

An album of renewal

The album’s title, Djupa andetag - Deep Breaths, captures its essence perfectly — the act of pausing, inhaling, and reconnecting with life itself. Frida’s voice here is deep and resonant, filled with wisdom and grace. Every song feels like a conversation with herself, a meditation set to melody.

Three singles were released from the album:

• “Även en blomma” (Even a Flower) — a tender hymn to fragility and strength, and perhaps the most quintessentially “Frida” song ever recorded.

• “Ögonen” (The Eyes) — a cinematic ballad that blends sensuality with vulnerability.

• “Alla mina bästa år” (All My Best Years) — a radiant duet with Marie Fredriksson of Roxette, whose voice intertwined beautifully with Frida’s. Marie, who sadly left us in 2019, brought a soft intensity to the track that now feels almost sacred — two icons of Swedish music meeting in a moment of perfect harmony.

Between light and shadow

Djupa andetag was never about chart glory — it was about authenticity. Frida chose not to chase trends or global campaigns; she made a deeply Scandinavian album, full of forests, sky, and silence. Listeners who expected ABBA-style pop found something even more precious: stillness. It is an album to sit with, not dance to — a soundtrack for the inner landscape.

Though released only on CD and never on vinyl, Djupa andetag has endured. It remains available on major streaming services today, introducing new generations to the serenity of Frida’s later artistry.

A missed opportunity, and a lasting treasure

Around 2016, there were confirmed discussions with Marie Ledin about creating a deluxe or vinyl edition of Djupa andetag. Fans were thrilled by the prospect — a remastered celebration of this overlooked masterpiece. Sadly, those plans seem to have faded away, and no such release ever materialised.

Reflection

Djupa andetag feels more relevant than ever. It reminds us that the truest form of artistry is not found in volume or spectacle, but in honesty. It is a record about life after noise — the deep exhale that follows everything.

Frida, Thank you for the courage to pause, to reflect, and to remind us — through every song — that even a flower can bloom again.

Today Frida & Benny appeared as special surprise guests at a unique daytime performance of Abba Voyage attended by nearly 3000 schoolchildren. It's Frida's 9th time. Abba Voyage launches education programme which will support youngsters from underrepresented communities across east London.

 Ha muerto a los 80 años Georg "Jojje" Wadenius, famoso cantante, compositor, guitarrista y productor sueco. En 2010 lanzó "RECONNECTION" su álbum de colaboraciones en el que contó con Frida para versionar "MORNING HAS BROKEN". DEP.

Georg "Jojje" Wadenius, famous Swedish singer, composer, guitarist and producer, died at the age of 80. In 2010 he released "RECONNECTION", his album with many collaborations where Frida featured covering "MORNING HAS BROKEN". RIP.

El 15 de noviembre de 2025, el mundo celebra el 80º cumpleaños de Anni-Frid Lyngstad — “Frida” — una de los cuatro miembros icónicos de ABBA y una de las voces más distintivas de la música pop.

Elegante, poderosa y profundamente expresiva, la voz de Frida ayudó a definir el sonido atemporal de ABBA — desde la grandeza de “Fernando”, “Money, Money, Money” y “Super Trouper” hasta la profundidad emocional de “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “When All Is Said and Done” y “I Let the Music Speak”. On November 15, 2025, the world celebrates the 80th birthday of Anni-Frid Lyngstad — “Frida” — one of the four iconic members of ABBA and one of the most distinctive voices in pop music.

Elegant, powerful, and deeply expressive, Frida’s voice helped define ABBA’s timeless sound — from the grandeur of “Fernando” “Money, Money, Money” and “Super Trouper” to the emotional depth of “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “When All Is Said and Done” and “I Let the Music Speak.” Yet her artistry extends far beyond ABBA, through acclaimed solo work and a lifelong commitment to music, culture, and compassion.

Born in Norway in 1945 and raised in Sweden, Frida began performing as a teenager in local bands before winning New Faces in 1967 — a breakthrough that led to television appearances and her first solo recordings. Her debut album showcased an artist of rare emotional range and vocal precision.

With ABBA, Frida conquered the world — touring Scandinavia, Europe, North America, Australia, and Japan — bringing both glamour and grounded humanity to the stage. Her performance energy, magnetic presence, and connection with audiences became legendary. “The energy exchange between us on stage and the audience was absolutely amazing,” she once recalled.

After ABBA, her solo career flourished. “Something’s Going On” (1982) produced by Phil Collins, achieved international success with the hit “I Know There’s Something Going On”. She continued to explore new musical territories with “Shine” (1984) and later returned to her native language with “Djupa Andetag” (1996) — a deeply personal album reflecting maturity, introspection and environmental awareness.

In 1992, Frida brought her environmental commitment to the stage by organizing the televised charity event “Konsert på Slottsgården” (“Concert at the Royal Court”) at Stockholm Royal Palace, held in the presence of the Swedish royal family and a live audience. The concert featured performances by Frida together with Marie Fredriksson (Roxette), Tomas Ledin and others, raising nationwide awareness for environmental causes. Frida’s career has always reflected fearless curiosity — a constant search for new dimensions in her voice beyond ABBA.
