THOMAS JOHANSSON'S ROCK'N'ROLL CIRCUS

[Pentti Koponen]

Thomas Johansson, legendary concert arranger at EMA Telstar and Live Nation has worked with most major Swedish and international artists for decades. He has not been willing to write a book about his career, though many, including Björn Ulvaeus, have persuaded him to do one. Now he finally surprises us with a book, Rock'n'roll circus, which he has written with Expressen's Mats Olsson.

The book is no traditional biography, it is about concerts and music. Johansson has kept set lists of the concerts he has produced. 25 set lists were chosen and Johansson and Olsson tells backstage stories behind them. Like how arranger of Roxette's Paraguay concert had sold 40.000 tickets to the arena of 30.000. And how the Nobel Prize which Bob Dylan refused to accept finally got delivered to him.

Thomas Johansson has not wanted to write any scandal book about artistes. As Björn writes in the opening words of "Rock'n'roll circus", Thomas Johansson would never take up confidental things.

BOWIE'S 70 "NO PLAN" VIDEO

Bowie would have been 70 today, but unfortunately in 4 days it'll be a year since he not among us any more. But even so, in coincidence with what would be his birthday, a new video from the artist has been released "NO PLAN", from his posthumous EP from beyond the grave, which we include today in  his remembrance.

Posting some of the reactions of our favourite artists on Bowie's unexpected death yesterday.

Eva Amaral y Juan Aguirre (Amaral)

Y a nivel visual, qué decir. Es el personaje más impactante del pop».

Luz Casal

Madonna:

"I'm Devastated! This great Artist changed my life! First concert i ever saw in Detroit! R.IP. Talented. Unique. A genius. Game changer.. The man who fell to Earth. Your spirit lives on forever! So lucky to have met you! Hot tramp. I love you so"

Leonor Watling:

"Forever singing forever changing. Forever alive".

Pet Shop Boys:

"We are all Bowie's children. He inspired us and changed our lives".

Paul McCartney:

"Very sad news to wake up to on this raining morning. David was a great star and I treasure the moments we had together. His music played a very strong part in British musical history and I'm proud to think of the huge influence he has had on people all around the world. I send my deepest sympathies to his family and will always remember the great laughs we had through the years. His star will shine in the sky forever."

Rosana:

Georgina:
"Noooo!!! Bowie no!! esto no me lo esperaba".

MClan:
"Cuantos planetas y paisajes increíbles hemos descubierto con tu música y con tu arte...te decimos adiós con..."

Sting:
"Trudie and I were totally captivated by his energetic charm, his extraordinary music, his art and his unique spirit. We will never forget him."

"LIFE ON MARS"?/"LIV PA MARS?", DAVID BOWIE & FRIDA

Frida & Benny

English version

What do Bowie, Frida & Benny have in common? In a previous post, we've known that one of Benny's songs of his life is "Life on Mars?" by David Bowie, and apart from this, and I suppose that because of it, it was one of the cover versions, among others, that he produced for Frida's first solo-album, they were a couple back then. Benny produced her record "Frida ensam" ("Frida alone") in 1975 and from there is the Swedish cover of Bowie's song.

SCISSOR SISTERS

The American band Scissor Sisters are premiering a brand new album "NIGHT WORK" and a new single "FIRE WITH FIRE". They formed in 2001. Their style draws from disco, glam rock, pop and the club scene of New York City.
The group consists of vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy, lead guitar/bassist Del Marquis, and drummer Randy Real. While experiencing only limited mainstream success in their homeland of the United States, the band has been hugely successful in Europe, Canada, Australia, and particularly the United Kingdom, where they have achieved a number of chart hits, with their debut album becoming best-selling album of 2004 in the UK. Their single "I DON'T FEEL LIKE DANCING'" was the fourth best-selling single in the UK in 2006 and stayed in the UK top 40 for 27 weeks. The band claims to be influences by Elton John, ABBA, the Bee Gees, Blondie, Duran Duran, Supertramp, David Bowie, Kiss, Queen, Chic...

Today we introduce them as our candidates premiering their new video-single and including previous hits.

APARECE OTRO FAMOSO FAN DE ABBA / Another celebrity Abba fan appears

Brian Eno

Brian Eno gave yesterday an interview to British newspaper The Guardian, where he uncovers himself as another celebrity Abba fan. We include the extract from the interview where he speaks about Abba.

BRIAN ENO: He's been a Roxy original, the inventor of 'ambient', Bowie's muse, the brain in Talking Heads and U2's 'fifth man'.

"In the 70s, no one would admit that they liked Abba. Now it's fine. It's so kitsch. Kitsch is an excuse to defend the fact that they feel a common emotion. If it is kitsch. you put a sort of frame around something – to suggest you are being ironic. Actually, you aren't. You are really enjoying it. I like Abba. I did then and I didn't admit it. The snobbery of the time wouldn't allow it. I did admit it when I heard 'Fernando'; I could not bear to keep the secret to myself anymore and also because I think there is a difference between Swedish sentimentality and LA sentimentality because the Swedish are so restrained emotionally. When they get sentimental it's rather sweet and charming. What we really got me with "Fernando" was what the lower singer was doing, I don't know her name. I spent months trying to learn that. It's so obscure what she's doing and very hard to sing. And then from being a sceptic I went over the top in the other direction. I really fell for them."
