I Know There’s Something Going On”.
Robertson en “Time”, aportó profundidad escandinava moderna a “Så länge vi har varann” (y su versión en inglés “As Long As I Have You”) con Ratata, y encontró calma espiritual en sus grabaciones con el compositor suizo Dan Daniell, incluyendo “Lieber Gott”, “I Have a Dream” y “1865.”
Anni-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA Turns 80 – A Voice That Defined an Era
On November 15, 2025, the world celebrates the 80th birthday of Anni-Frid Lyngstad — “Frida” — one of the four iconic members of ABBA and one of the most distinctive voices in pop music.
Elegant, powerful, and deeply expressive, Frida’s voice helped define ABBA’s timeless sound — from the grandeur of “Fernando” “Money, Money, Money” and “Super Trouper” to the emotional depth of “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “When All Is Said and Done” and “I Let the Music Speak.” Yet her artistry extends far beyond ABBA, through acclaimed solo work and a lifelong commitment to music, culture, and compassion.
Born in Norway in 1945 and raised in Sweden, Frida began performing as a teenager in local bands before winning New Faces in 1967 — a breakthrough that led to television appearances and her first solo recordings. Her debut album showcased an artist of rare emotional range and vocal precision.
With ABBA, Frida conquered the world — touring Scandinavia, Europe, North America, Australia, and Japan — bringing both glamour and grounded humanity to the stage. Her performance energy, magnetic presence, and connection with audiences became legendary. “The energy exchange between us on stage and the audience was absolutely amazing,” she once recalled.
After ABBA, her solo career flourished. “Something’s Going On” (1982) produced by Phil Collins, achieved international success with the hit “I Know There’s Something Going On”. She continued to explore new musical territories with “Shine” (1984) and later returned to her native language with “Djupa Andetag” (1996) — a deeply personal album reflecting maturity, introspection and environmental awareness.
In 1992, Frida brought her environmental commitment to the stage by organizing the televised charity event “Konsert på Slottsgården” (“Concert at the Royal Court”) at Stockholm Royal Palace, held in the presence of the Swedish royal family and a live audience. The concert featured performances by Frida together with Marie Fredriksson (Roxette), Tomas Ledin and others, raising nationwide awareness for environmental causes. It was accompanied by a charity single featuring “Änglamark” and “Saltwater.”
Frida’s career has always reflected fearless curiosity — a constant search for new dimensions in her voice beyond ABBA. She explored theatrical pop with Daniel Balavoine on “Belle” and B.A. Robertson on “Time” brought modern Scandinavian depth to “Så länge vi har varann” (and English version “As Long As I Have You”) with Ratata, and found spiritual calm in her recordings with Swiss songwriter Dan Daniell, including “Lieber Gott”, “I Have a Dream” and “1865.” With Filippa Giordano, she bridged pop and classical grace on “La Barcarolle” while her work with Georg Wadenius on “Morning Has Broken” revealed intimate simplicity. Her luminous collaboration with Jon Lord on “The Sun Will Shine Again” captured her soulful strength, and her Spanish interpretation of “Andante, Andante” with Arturo Sandoval proved that her voice remains as bold, generous, and genre-defying as ever.
Beyond music, Frida has been a voice for tolerance and empathy. “My motto is to live in peace and respect all the different religions, people’s sexualities, and ethnic origins… I salute all those who stand up for free speech and differences of opinion,” she shared on ABBA’s official channels.
Today, as ABBA’s music continues to unite generations — through ABBA Voyage, stage musicals, motion pictures, television series and cultural retrospectives — Frida’s artistry remains at its heart: warm, fearless, and true.
As the world celebrates her 80th year, we honor a life in music — and a voice that continues to speak to humanity.
Happy 80th Birthday, Frida.

In the week Frida turns 80, her solo-album "ENSAM" celebrates 50 years today.
"FRIDA ENSAM" (1975)
Frida gave “Fernando” its first heartbeat — before ABBA took it to the stars
50th Anniversary — “Frida Ensam” (1975). November belongs to Anni-Frid Lyngstad — the unmistakable voice of ABBA — who turns 80 this year. While her years with ABBA made her a global legend, her solo work revealed a different side of her artistry: intimate, emotional, and powerfully expressive.
In late summer 1975, Frida appeared on the Swedish TV show Sommarnöjet at Skansen in Stockholm, performing “Syrtaki” and “Aldrig mer.” These early performances offered a first glimpse of her forthcoming solo album — Frida Ensam (Frida Alone).
The album was recorded at Glen Studio in Långängen, Stockholm during the summer of 1975. Agnetha Fältskog did not participate in the sessions with backing vocals, as she was simultaneously working on her own solo album. Produced by Benny Andersson, the project featured much of the extended ABBA family of musicians and Björn Ulvaeus.
One of the highlights was Frida’s hauntingly beautiful Swedish version of “Fernando” (initially titled Tango), delivered with intense emotions and intimacy.
Released by Polar Music on November 10, 1975, the album ‘Frida Ensam’ became a defining moment in her career — a critically acclaimed and commercially triumphant solo album that showcased Frida’s expressive depth beyond ABBA. The record included Swedish-language versions of international hits, reimagined through her personal interpretations and striking vocal control.
The standout was the Swedish version of “Fernando” that entered Svensktoppen in December 1975 and quickly reached No. 1, and remaining there for an astonishing nine consecutive weeks — a record-breaking achievement that confirmed Frida’s immense popularity as a solo artist.
Although never released as a commercial single in Sweden, Fernando dominated radio airplay and topped Svensktoppen for nine weeks. The single was issued in Norway and Denmark, where it resulted in strong radio rotation, further cementing Frida’s reputation outside ABBA. Written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus with lyrics by Stig Anderson, “Fernando” was later re-recorded in English for ABBA’s international release in 1976. That version went on to become one of ABBA’s biggest global hits, selling million of copies and earning multiple gold awards worldwide.
In Sweden, the album ‘Frida Ensam’ debuted straight at No. 1 and went on to sell more than 130,000 copies — an extraordinary figure for its time and a milestone in Swedish pop history.
Reflecting on the project, Frida told VeckoRevyn:
“I’ve chosen songs that were impossible for me to sing within ABBA. It’s good for me to sing on my own sometimes, but I don’t want to mix my solo work with ABBA’s work. ABBA is most important right now.”
Before Christmas 1975, Frida personally signed copies of the album at Åhléns department store in Stockholm — where thousands of fans gathered to meet her in what became a joyful, almost chaotic celebration of admiration and affection.
Fifty years later, Frida Ensam still stands as one of the great Swedish pop albums of its era — confident, elegant, and entirely her own.

Happy 50th Anniversary "FRIDA Ensam"
Today, 50 years ago, on November 10th, 1975, FRIDA`s NR. 1 album "Ensam" was released with bombastic success!
"Frida Ensam" was recorded in KMH Studio and mixed at Metronome Studio in Stockholm. Benny Andersson plays all the pianos and keyboards, while the rest of the musicians are very much the same team who played on ABBA's records. First recordings and preparations started in 1974 but, due to the rising popularity of ABBA, the album took over 18 months to complete and was recorded between sessions and promotion for the ABBA albums Waterloo and ABBA. The album was a huge success in Sweden topping the album charts for six weeks and spending a total of 38 weeks in the charts. The Swedish version of "Fernando" topped the Svensktoppen radio chart for nine weeks. A classic album by FRIDA, which will be timeless! HAPPY 50th ANNIVERSARY.
